Senior Infants and First Class took part in a STEM challenge to rescue as many bears as possible from the lava by building a structure with the following materials: 3 cups, 4 lollipop sticks and a card. They came up with lots of ways to save the bears! Second and Third Class experimented to see who could blow the most bubbles. Mrs Trainor’s Third and Fourth Class took part in a DNA Workshop in Dundalk Library as part of Science Week. The children learned all about DNA and had great fun extracting DNA from a banana. The children also had some time to look at some science books on their visit. They all had a great time. Fourth and Fifth Class tried to catch and bounce bubbles and participated in the Bubble Olympics whereby they experimented to see who could blow the biggest bubble. They also tested their brain reaction time by catching a dropped ruler as quick as possible. They also took part in the STEM challenges of constructing the best flying paper airplane and designing and making a parachute for an egg to drop safely from a height to the floor. Fifth and Sixth Class participated in RTÉ’s Science week launch via Zoom. They observed the impact of different liquids on our tooth by placing an egg into different liquids and observing what happened over time. For their STEM challenge they built rollercoasters.
